On 7 March 2019, ITU and UNECE will convene the Symposium on the Future Networked Car (FNC-2019) within the 89th Geneva International Motor Show.

Intelligent transport systems and automated driving are fast moving towards widespread commercialisation and market acceptance. High levels of automation – the penultimate step to fully automated driving – are already on the road and more are expected. They hold great promise to improve road safety, reduce congestion and emissions, and increase the accessibility of personal mobility to the elderly and persons with disabilities.

Held on the first public day of the Geneva International Motor Show, FNC-2019 will bring together representatives of  the automotive and information and communication technology (ICT) industries and government leaders to discuss the status and future of vehicle communications and automated driving.

The Symposium panelists will examine advances in the areas of cybersecurity, artificial intelligence and the deployment of automated mobility services in the service of the public. The Symposium will explore the relationship between vehicle communications and automated driving analyzing the crucial role of connectivity, including 5G in delivering safer and more effective transport for all members of society. In addition, the Symposium will discuss how standards bodies can best collaborate to meet industry needs and to achieve interoperability.
