For over 50 years, geostationary (GSO) satellites have provided vital infrastructure to the global communications ecosystem. Hundreds of them are in orbit today, delivering services ranging from Internet connectivity to weather and mapping data and to distribution of digital video-on-demand, streaming and satellite TV channels globally.
Demand for global connectivity for IoT and M2M applications is motivating an increasing number of players to apply for ITU-allocated ‘global IMSI ranges’.
The ProjectConnect training was part of GIGA, a unique partnership launched by ITU, the UN specialized agency for information and communication technology and UNICEF, the UN Children’s agency. The project aims at mapping the connectivity of all existing schools as a step towards ensuring that every school is connected to fast and reliable internet.
